A RARE AND UNUSUAL .177 BREAK-BARREL LATE PRODUCTION 'PAFF' AIR-RIFLE, serial no. 67,
late production circa 1890, with reblued two-stage smoothbore 16 3/4in. barrel, the right hand side of mount marked 'PATENTIRT', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, nickel-plated hollow rectangular frame with long barrel release lever running along the top-strap released via a catch at rear, plain nickel-plated cylindrical air-chamber mounted within the frame, chequered hardwood straight-hand butt-stock, guarded trigger and moulded cocking rod in lieu of fore-end, the whole well refinished
Provenance: This and the previous Lot 26 were manufactured and marketed by a Belgian, Henry Schuermans from Liege. The patentee was an L. Poilvache of Liege (patents 76743 March 1887, 79663 November 1887 and 84461 December 1888). Mr John Atkins wrote about them in Airgunner Magazine, February 2003. Apparently a pistol was made on the same principal as well. Very few rifles are known to still exist
